SKINCARE TIPS I WISH I KNEW SOONER

SKINCARE TIPS I WISH I KNEW SOONER

Hi beautiful!
When it comes to self-care and skincare, the age old saying “better late than never” is spot on! It’s never too late to start doing something productive (no matter what that is) and that entails skincare too. But while “later” is better than “never”… “NOW” is better than “later”. So here’s what I wish I started doing long before. If you’re not subscribed to these practices, I encourage you to revisit your routine, make space & start doing. But seriously, start doing now.🖤🤍

1.USE sunscreen 365 days/year, rain or shine, even when staying indoors.

UVs can penetrate through windows and clothing, and protecting your skin not only saves your skin from damage and disease but can also save you collagen. Back in my late teens/early 20s I was more preoccupied with glistening in baby oil while tanning. The brown spots on my forehead remind me of that every day. So please apply sunscreen every morning and re-apply every 2-3 hrs. If wearing makeup, try sunscreen powder. But apply generously as to keep the protection value. You’re wasting good $$ on products if you’re not using sunscreen daily.

2. Clean your hands before washing your face.

TBH, I’ve been doing this always, but I know friends who don’t so… here it is. You’re pumping some good ol’ facial wash onto germy hands and then spreading those bacteria all over your beautiful face alongside the cleaner. No thank you ma'am, we don't subscribe to that!

3. Double-Cleanse at night.

Categorically life-changing!! Oil-based product 1st, gentle cleanser 2nd. The KEY however, is to gently rub the products all over the skin in circular motion, for at least 1 minute. Each. I was double-cleansing before but doing it quickly. It wasn’t until I adopted the 1-minute rule that my skin (more specifically my acne) started clearing out.

4. Use a Toner.

Some of us either use an alcohol-based toner, or don’t use one at all, which is such a shame! Toners are generally pH neutral and amazing at rebalancing skin after cleansing. Bonus points if you use a hydrating, alcohol-FREE toner.

5. Use a Vitamin C serum every morning.

As the queen of daytime antioxidants, Vitamin C does wonders for the skin! Short of giving you a hug... she does it all! Helps improves skin tone and texture, pigmentation issues, and fights free radicals (unstable atoms -aka the bad guys- that can damage cells). I’ll have you know that Kakadu Plum has gained worldwide recognition as the fruit with the highest recorded levels of natural Vitamin C content in the world, measuring up to 7000 mg/100g DW, which is 100 times the Vitamin C content in oranges. You get to bask in the glory of Kakadu Plum that’s in the 4-In-1 Multipurpose Booster Serum. Your skin will LOVE it!

6. Change your (SILK) pillowcase every 2 days...

And clean your phone screen every night. This is especially powerful if you are acne-prone. The silk helps prevent premature lines, wrinkles and splitting hair strands.

7. Apply Hyaluronic Acid on slightly damp skin.

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant (a substance that attracts water) and it essentially draws moisture to itself, helping to prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL). It’s a must-have ingredient, but if applied to dry skin, the HA will draw moisture from its nearest source - your skin.

8. Don't strip the skin of its natural oil.

I’ve dealt with acne my ENTIRE adult life, so I know it’s no fun. And one of the biggest mistakes I used to do in my 20s, was strip the skin of oils, in order to “prevent breakouts”. (insert buzzer sound) – wrong!! So wrong!! When using harsh ingredients and overly scrubbing, you’re stripping the skin of its natural oils and guess what happens as a result? Not only does the skin go into overdrive, overproducing oil in a desperate attempt to rebalance itself (hello even more pimples), but you’re fast-forwarding the aging process. At the end of the day, it’s important to not touch the skin during the day, double-cleanse, choose water-based products, moisturize, use sunscreen, change your pillow case often and wipe the items that come in contact with your face (sunglasses, phone, etc.) every night and cut down on the dairy.

9. Using too much product can potentially damage your skin.

"Less is more" ... 100% applies here. Too much product can be suffocating, not to mention wasteful. Here's a reference of the correct amount of product to use.
