Concealer with SPF

5 Key Reasons You Absolutely Need a Concealer With an SPF

There is enough research at this point for us to know the adverse effects of sun exposure. It causes redness, dehydration, peeling, itchiness, and pain. It can also increase the risk of skin cancer, skin conditions, premature aging, and more.

The undereye area and its characteristically thin skin, is particularly susceptible to damage. Then factor in the melasma and wrinkles that come with sun exposure, and you can see why the sun is referred to as the biggest extrinsic aging factor, responsible for more than 80% of rapid aging.

The solution? Broad spectrum sunscreen - more specifically as we’re talking today, concealer with SPF to protect those delicate under eyes.

1. Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen

What differentiates the SPF concealer from regular face concealer is that it will protect the skin against damaging rays, ideally both UVA and UVB rays (in the case of a broad spectrum SPF product).

This is beneficial because it is the UVA rays that cause premature aging. UVB rays, on the other hand, cause skin burns and damage. And the unprotected exposure can cause skin cancer! Thus, makeup that protects adequately will be a critical component in your daily sunscreen routine.

2. High SPF Content

Some sunscreen makeup on the market will have a reasonable SPF value.

Scientists at the Skin Cancer Foundation have said that SPF 15 alone filters out 93% of UVB rays while SPF 30 filters out 97% of rays.

Concealers formulated with high SPF content (30) will be a boon for all makeup lovers.

3. Non-Greasy Skin

Arguably, one of the most irritating things about sunscreen is how greasy it leaves your skin, and (in the case of certain UV protectors used) even the white residue it leaves behind and potential of flashback.

Opting for a 2-in-1 product (at a minimum) will reduce one less greasy layer on your skin. This will ensure the rest of your face makeup stays put and that you're not sweating it out through the day!

4. Reduced Skin Irritation

One of the other negatives of wearing makeup and sunscreen together is that the combo could irritate the skin. Too many layers of product applied (and re-applied as is the case for sunscreen) throughout the day, could result in congestion, breakouts, acne, sensitization, rashes, and other kinds of irritations.

By reducing the number of products (and irritants), you'll also cut down on the possibility of breaking out.

5. Good for Skin Ingredients

Some SPF concealers may also have ingredients that are highly beneficial to the skin. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and vitamin B5 to add plumpness and radiance to the skin. The key however, will be to confirm with the respective brand IF those ingredients were used at their actual levels of performance, as opposed to “marketing performance”. In other words, were they “infused” or added for the sake of marketing the product? Or were they formulated to Perform?

With sustained use of products actually formulated to perform, you'll benefit from sun protection as well as ingredients that leave your skin looking younger and more luminous.
