|Glycerin (and) Water (and) Hedychium Coronarium Root Extract
|Butterfly Ginger Extract
|Plant-based, Madagascar (Analamanga region)
What It Is:
The butterfly ginger plant is an invasive species in Madagascar. The extract comes from the rhizomes which are the reserve of vital metabolites for plants. This extract is rich in sugars.
Sustainability / How It’s Made:
There is an identified picking area where this plant is allowed to propagate in the wilderness. From October to March, residents are trained on how to collect the rhizomes of the plant, and are granted permission to harvest. The plant naturally renews itself for regrowth, making the collection sustainable. Harvesting is overseen by a ethnobotanist for sustainable collection and quality assurance. The rhizome pickings are sent to France where the plant is cleaned and the valuable actives are extracted.
